Worldview
What is a Worldview?
A worldview is a person's perception of reality and the approach he takes to interact with what he believes is real and important. A worldview asks the big questions of life such as How Did We Get Here? Is There a God? What Does it Mean to be Human? Is a Human More Valuable than an Animal? What's Wrong with the World? Is There a Solution to the Problems of the World? What is the Meaning and Goal to Life? How you answer these questions and where you look for the answers will determine your worldview, how you live, and how you prepare for eternity.
Big Questions Demand Big Answers
The Big Questions of life and reality demand big answers. Every religion and philosophy seeks to answer them. The source for your answers to the Big Questions will determine your view of the world, how you interact with the world, and your well being in life. Look at eight worldviews and their answers to 14 big questions. Choose carefully!
Why is it Important?
Imagine you are on an around-the-world flight. You have journeyed from the United States to Japan to Thailand to Nepal. You are ready for the next leg of your journey and have taken your seat for your flight only to discover that your airplane has mechanical problems. The pilot comes on the intercom and says, "We have some difficulties that we need to take care of. But don't worry, we are going to sacrifice a couple of goats to the sky god to incur his favor for this flight and then we'll be on our way." You are astonished by this announcement and ask the flight attendant if that is really true. He says, "Yes - our view of reality is that everything is controlled by spirits and when things go wrong we believe it is necessary to appease the spirits."
Would you want to continue on this flight? Suddenly - a worldview becomes very important! (Note: this actually happened in September of 2007)
